Welcome to the Gleitlagertechnik Weißbacher GmbH

We have been designing, making and repairing oil lubricated plain bearings for industrial use for more than 35 years. Our dedicated team will gladly answer all enquiries that you may have concerning our products.

A journal bearing is a machine element generating a completely seperating oil film between shaft and bearing. The oil film is the load bearing element in this arrangement.

The body of a journal bearing made by our company mostly consists of steel. In individual cases it can be made of copper alloy. To enable a start of the machine from standstill without damaging the shaft, a layer of a relatively soft tin-based white metal or a polymer based on polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is applied on the bearing surface.

There is no contact between shaft and bearing during operation. Therefore, during steady state operation, the journal bearing is in principle wear-free.

Fields of application for our products

Production of bearing systems using state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies.

Our Service

On the basis of our customer's specifications, we work out a complete problem solution with development, design, purchasing and production. If required, we also provide comprehensive customer support in the field of application of the equipped system.
Our focus here is on providing individual support for each customer and finding the optimum solution for their specific problem.

In addition to the manufacture of plain bearings and plain bearing systems, we offer our customers a repair service for damaged plain bearings and plain bearing systems.

Machine downtimes due to damaged journal bearings mean considerable losings to the affected enterprise. Therefore our company is not only specialized on remanufacture of journal bearings, but also offers you professional repair of your damaged journal bearings.

For a repair, you should describe the bearing concerned, estimate the complexity of repair and inform us of the repair specifications. You may gladly benefit from our professional advice and experience by having us conduct a damage analysis free of charge based on digital pictures of your damaged bearings.
Thereby you have the possibility to estimate complexity and delivery time prior to a quotation in order to decide between repair and remanufacture of the concerned bearing.

More information

For new designs, we also offer our customers construction and calculation of journal bearings. For this purpose, we apply powerful computer software:

  • For constructions, we use the software programs Autodesk Inventor® and Autodesk AutoCAD®.
  • We carry out mechanical designs with the FEM software Nastran®, fracture mechanics strength analyses with the aid of the FKM guideline.
  • For calculation of journal bearings, we have, based on the software COMBROS-R and COMBROS-A, developed a graphical user interface that considerably simplifies user-computer-communication. This user interface also makes it possible to link the above-mentioned programmes with the CalculiX FE tool.
